The story of “Alif” with Sheeraz Y. Wania

Alif is not only the first letter of the Arabic alphabet, but also a unit of measure and a symbol representing Allah. This workshop with graphic designer Sheeraz Wania explores the importance of calligraphy in Muslim arts and introduces the different types of calligraphic scripts and the concept of geometric interplay traditionally used. Participants will have the opportunity to create their own personalized “Tughra,” or calligraphic monogram, with black ink and brush.

$20, $18 members, $15 students and seniors
